Dorval, QC – January 15, 2016 – Musiquip, a distribution, sales and marketing company dedicated to delivering products, services and support to the U.S. musical instruments industry, is amalgamating with SFM, its Canadian sister company. The united companies will operate as SFM in both the USA and Canada.
Musiquip was introduced in 2005 as a sister company to SFM, the Montreal, Quebec-based distributor with a storied 35 year history in the Canadian MI and Pro Audio industry.
After a decade of operating in the USA as a standalone entity, Musiquip becomes one with SFM, and the united company’s entire U.S. and Canadian MI operation will be consolidated into a single new business unit (“SFM MI”).
Building on the SFM brand’s history and reputation in Canada, the move streamlines the company’s MI business activities in both countries, and offers its suppliers a single, cohesive distribution solution for accessing the North American market in its entirety.
“This change is a logical step in the progression of our business,” says John Kelley, General Manager of the new SFM MI business unit. “When we first set out to serve the U.S. market through Musiquip, we operated somewhat independently of the rest of our company. Over the years, personnel, resources, and procedures have grown increasingly interconnected. Internally, we’ve been approaching our MI operation as a single division with a North American scope for some time, rather than two separate companies split by a geographic border. This branding change allows us to formalize what has been a very natural development.”
SFM MI is the exclusive North American distributor of AER Amps, Cole Clark Guitars, Hiscox Cases, Outlaw Effects, T-Rex Effects, and Timber Tones Picks. The company is the exclusive Canadian distributor of Casio, Duesenberg Guitars, Mono, Moog, MusicNomad, NS Design, On-Stage Stands, and Schecter Guitars, and is a distributor of Kyser Musical Products in the USA.
